From old to new media with a single idea
Some things are better done the old way, like writing, when you have a paper that doesn’t run out of battery or music that doesn’t make you want to rip your ears out. Some dishes preserved with tradition. And there are some things that can be done easier with new things, like communicate or learn. We made an essay the old way, communicating ideas like the old days, now we made that essay a new idea, converting it to some type of new media. This is a comparison between the 2.
First, what are the steps to write and essay and the steps to adapt into a new media format?
For the essay it might have been harder to do since it has more steps, first we had to brainstorm, gather ideas, are we for or against new media, why ? Then came the prewrite, organizing all of those ideas into 3 main claims that support your idea and a counterclaim that shows the reader the other side of the story. Then we extend those ideas into a first draft that was then revised by a classmate and ourselves, then we fixed the errors and finished our final draft. For the new media project it was easier since we already had the topic and the information for it, we just have to make a good adaptation. We made a design on how we were going to adapt and how it was going to be presented at the end. In my case I had to figure out how to make a podcast and put it into weebly.
Therefore, what similarities can this projects have and what are the differences? Some similar things are the content and the topic. Some differences can be the medium it is seen at, one is a physical paper, and the other one is in the web. One you have to focus your attention into reading it, the other one you can listen to while you do other things, it’s also easier and faster to make and to go over it.
But, what difficult and pleasurable things come from doing an assay then. The essay is longer to do. It is more boring to make and to read, it requires more preparation and is also judged more harshly since it’s qualified due to certain rules. But it’s also a more popular medium and you don’t have to worry about stuttering or making a mistake all over again in a podcast. The podcast is hard in the since that you have to actually speak in front of a camera and avoid stuttering, also saying things that might sound stupid since you are basically speaking to yourself about something that you did in a loud voice also the pressure to fit an entire section in three available minutes for every podcast. But it’s also more fulfilling creatively and is judged less harshly. A pleasure in it would be that it Takes less time to do and is less boring.
Those are the similarities, differences, steps, difficulties and pleasures of going from the old media essay to the new media podcast.
